About

Before we do anything, let's have a coffee.

Fika Friday is written and run by Will Whawell — from a converted pub in Wales, usually before the rest of the world has finished its first cup.

Writer · Consultant · Flat White Enthusiast

Thirty-seven years at the intersection of law, quality, and commercial reality.

I've spent my career in and around UK legal practice — on the inside helping firms run better, and on the outside auditing what they tell funders and insurers they can deliver. Somewhere along the way I became obsessive about three things: how organisations price their work, how they manage quality, and why the most valuable conversations are always the ones that happen before anyone reaches for a spreadsheet.

Fika Friday is where that experience becomes writing. The blog is mine — it reflects how I see the world and what I think matters. The content services exist because other organisations started asking me to write for them the way I write for myself.

Fika is not a brand name. It's how I actually work. Every engagement, every relationship, every useful thing I've ever produced started the same way — with a proper conversation over a decent coffee.

I hold an IRCA Lead Auditor Certification in ISO 9001 QMS, soon to be updated to the refreshed standard, along with an Internal ISO 27001 ability and will be completing the new Lead Auditor Standard ISO 27001:2022 shortly along with a deep interest in AI governance. I also run T3PS Legal Dynamics specialising in Legal Pricing and Operations and WJW33 my ISO focused consultancy.

I live in Wales. I take coffee seriously enough to have opinions about it. I am, for what it's worth, a committed Formula 1 fan. And there is a story about Dundee penguins that I am not yet ready to tell.

The Name

Why "Fika"?

In Sweden, fika is the daily ritual of pausing to share coffee and conversation. Not a meeting. Not a networking event. Not a "quick catch-up." A genuine pause — where the quality of the conversation matters more than its efficiency.

The idea that slowing down produces better outcomes is unfashionable in a world that rewards speed. But every significant decision I've seen made well was preceded by someone saying "let's sit down and think about this properly." Fika Friday exists to be that pause.

The Friday part is simple. End of the week. Time to reflect. Whatever you read here on a Friday might shape how you think about Monday.

The Wider Practice

Three brands, one person.

Fika Friday is the thinking. T3PS Legal Dynamics is the legal operations practice. WJW33 is the ISO consultancy. All three are mine. They serve different markets, but the philosophy is the same: understand the situation first, then do the work.
